Although colorectal cancer (cancer in the colon or rectum) occurs most often in people over age 50, you are never too you for colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer incidence is increasing in people younger than under age 50. People in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s can get colorectal cancer.
People with average risk for colorectal cancer should begin regular screening at age 45.
Average risk means you do not have a family history of colorectal cancer and do not suffer from inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD. If there is a family history of colorectal cancer, you may need to begin screening earlier. Talk to your family today to know your family history and understand your risk.
